Perfume Bottles guide

Not All Perfume Bottles Are The Same
By J Cashmore

Perfume bottles are often as beautiful and ornamental as they are practical, and are an extremely collectable item.  bottles are required for safe storage because is very volatile and needs containers with very tight fitting lids or stoppers to prevent evaporation.  bottles are normally much smaller than cologne bottles, figural in design, and there are hundreds, even thousands of different designs by famous glass makers, making them highly desirable by both bottle and glass collectors.

Perfume bottles can be made from many different materials, but the most popular are crystal, silver, bakelite and pottery.  René Lalique is perhaps the best-known of the Art Deco glass designers and, of course, his bottles are very collectible but other makers are also popular.  From nestled in padded red velvet, to the latest minimalist creations of top designers, bottles are a true reflection of the age-old rules of seduction as played out between the sexes.

There is something very elegant about a vanity or dresser that is lined with

bottles. Whilst many wonderful fragrances come in interesting and wonderful bottles, you don’t need to leave your perfumes in the bottles they came in. With a little creativity, the bottles that line your dresser or vanity can be as distinctive as you are.

Reuse Your Selected Bottles

perfume bottlesQuite often manufacturers will make a special limited edition bottle. These bottles are so very pretty that it is hard to throw them away once the inside is gone. Instead of throwing them away, carefully refill them with another of your favorite fragrances and continue using them. After all, you don’t have to refill them with the fragrance they originally came with. You can find many various older novelty bottles from companies such as Avon and fill them with your chosen perfume. Search garage sales, thrift stores, antique shops, and even online auction houses to find old and interesting bottles.

If you browse about an antique shop, you might come across a few gorgeous atomizers or old fashioned stopper bottles. Just wash them out and allow them dry for a few days in advance of you placing your new in these golden oldies. It is a lot of fun to mist yourself from an atomizer that reminds you of bottles your great grandmother had sitting on her dresser. When you purchase an antique bottle or atomizer, always make sure that the stopper is tight so that you cannot evaporate from the bottle.

Manufacture New Bottles

A visit to a beauty supply shop, craft store or even a glass manufacturer can get  you a number of differnt looking atomizers and bottles that can be used to store your perfume. If you get a rather plain container, you can decorate it to your own taste. You can decoupage thin triangles of colored tissue paper to the container to develop a stained glass look. You can paint the bottle with stained glass paint or even fabric paint to give it a textured look.  You can even glue beads or other decorations to a bottle to make it look truly original.

If you are really creative and enjoy various kinds of crafts, think about taking a glass blowing class and producing your own bottle from scratch. Working with the supervision of master artists you can make up unique perfume bottles that are exquisite and unlike anything anyone else will have.
